Frequently Asked Questions:
Ask us a question:
If you have any questions that are not answered here, please feel free to send them to us.
What hours is the Centre open?
We are open from 7:30am to 6pm, Monday - Friday.
We're open throughout the year except on public holidays.

Are meals provided?
Yes, nutritious 'home cooked' meals are provided; for children on our School Readiness Program a 'lunch box meal' will be provided on specific days. For more information on what we provide, see - Menu.

Do the children go on trips or activities outside the centre?
Yes. We take the children on regular walks in the paddocks around Fantails and go on regular pre-arrange outings.

What will my child learn at Fantails?
Your child will learn how to:
  • interact with new people and form relationships
  • trust adults and other children
  • play and learn with people outside their immediate family
  • take turns and negotiate
  • take part in learning experiences in a group
  • ask questions and find out more.
These types of skills enhance what your child has already learned at home and helps them develop into a positive, confident and capable individual. They also form a strong foundation for later learning.

How would my child's progress be monitored?
Each child has a Profile Book capturing their development with photos, learning stories, assessments and artwork. Communication with parents/whanau forms an integral part of this feedback.

What does my child need to bring each day?
All food, nappies and sunscreen are provided; all we ask parents to bring is spare clothes, a sun hat in the summer and gumboots in the winter.

Can I visit the Centre at any time?
We encourage this as have an 'open door policy'. Please contact the office to let us know when you are coming to ensure our manager and/or your child's Buddy Teacher is available to show you around, answer questions and discuss the individual needs of your child.

Can I talk to the teachers who will be looking after my child?
Yes, please do. We encourage collaboration and communication with children's parents/whanau.
Child Climbing
My child is very shy, will they be noticed or will they play on their own all day as he is having problems making friends when in a group situation?
This type of information is very useful for us to know and you need to share with us before your child joins Fantails. The teaching staff are very aware of a shy child and will encourages lots of social situations that your child will be supported to be involved in. We can also help you with strategies to help outside of Fantails.

Will my child get sick when they start Childcare?
Health and safety is very important to us at Fantails. We maintain a very high level of hygiene to prevent contamination and infection. Our aim is to maintain all staff First Aid certified.

I would like my child to start as soon as possible, is there a waiting list?
Please contact us; availability will depend on the days and hours you require. We may be able to fit your child in immediately. Goto Enrolment Expression of Interest
